There is a reason graduation season at the University of Arizona hits different. The desert light wraps warm around every brick building, the cactus garden near Old Main looks like it was made for photos, and the energy on campus is electric when caps and gowns start appearing everywhere. When Catie reached out about booking her University of Arizona graduation session, I knew we were in for something great. She came ready, she brought the personality, and the UA campus delivered every single step of the way.

Catie is a University of Arizona Class of 2026 Humanities grad, and her session had everything that makes shooting on this campus so special. We moved through the cactus garden near Old Main, hit the iconic Old Main steps, worked the tree-lined Mall, and finished up with the palm-lined street that gives off the most cinematic late afternoon light. Every corner of this campus is different, and that is exactly why I love shooting University of Arizona graduation photos year after year.

That arms-raised, pure joy moment near the cactus garden is one of my favorite openers I have ever shot. The Old Main building in the background, the saguaros framing the moment, and Catie completely in her element. This is what University of Arizona graduation photos are supposed to look like. The navy gown, the Humanities stole, the white dress underneath, everything came together perfectly in that warm Tucson light.

We headed over to Old Main next, because no UA graduation session is complete without those steps. Catie ditched the gown for this one and let the white dress and stole take the lead. She hit the steps with that wave and a smile that said everything. The brick facade, the arched doorway, the UA seal up top, this is the most iconic backdrop on campus, full stop.

For Catie’s University of Arizona graduation portraits, we made sure to get a good close look at that Humanities stole. She held it out and owned every inch of what that stole represents. Four years of hard work right there in her hands. The cactus garden gave us that classic Tucson backdrop with the blooming flowers and saguaros, and the late afternoon light did the rest of the work.

Bear Down. The Wildcat sign on the tree-lined Mall is one of those shots that every UA grad needs, and Catie delivered it with the kind of enthusiasm that only comes from someone who actually earned it. The dappled light through the trees creates a completely different feel from the open desert shots, and that contrast is exactly why I love covering multiple locations in every session. This is what UA senior portraits look like when you work the whole campus.

And then there was this. Catie swapped out her graduation cap for a pair of Mickey Mouse ears, and I am not exaggerating when I say it made for some of the best shots of the day. There is no better way to show someone’s personality in a graduation session than letting them bring a prop that actually means something to them. This is the kind of shot that gets screenshotted and saved immediately. A Disney lover who just graduated from the University of Arizona. The dream.

The brick archways on campus are one of those locations that look almost too good to be real. That warm red brick, the curved arch framing the shot, and the soft light filtering through, it creates an image that feels both timeless and completely tied to this specific place. As a University of Arizona graduation photographer, I keep coming back to these archways every season because they never miss.

Back to the tree-lined walkway for one of the cleanest looks of the whole session. White dress, UA stole, holding the cap just so. The canopy of green overhead turns this path into one of the most photogenic spots on the entire campus. These portraits have a softness to them that is hard to replicate anywhere else, and they balance the open desert shots perfectly.

The walking shots along the palm-lined street are always magic. That golden backlight, the wide open road, the gown draped over her arm, it is the cinematic close that every session deserves. This is what graduation photography at the University of Arizona is supposed to look like.
