UC Irvine sits at the heart of Orange County, and it’s one of my favorite campuses to shoot in all of Southern California. The distinctive ring road design, the sprawling greenery of Aldrich Park, and the fact that you are 20 minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches in California makes Orange County graduation sessions genuinely unique.
I shoot Orange County graduation sessions during both fall and spring semesters. UCI consistently surprises clients with how well it photographs — the campus has a visual variety that most people don’t expect until they see the results.
Where We Shoot in Orange County
Aldrich Park at UC Irvine is the heart of campus, a sprawling green space ringed by academic buildings. The open lawn, mature trees, and soft natural light make for beautiful, relaxed portraits that feel completely different from the concrete-heavy campuses of other UC schools.
Langson Library offers strong architectural lines and a modern feel that works well for clean, sharp portraits and a more professional look.
The UCI gateway arches and campus entrances are popular for wide shots that capture the full scale of the university.
Newport Beach is 20 minutes from UCI and one of the most stunning coastal locations in Southern California. The combination of campus portraits and Newport Beach portraits gives your gallery an incredible range — university architecture and the California coast in one session.
Laguna Beach is 25 minutes from campus and arguably the most photogenic stretch of coast in Orange County. The coves, cliffs, and clear water create a backdrop that looks almost too good to be real.
Crystal Cove State Park in Newport Coast offers a more natural, rugged coastline alternative — great for a less crowded, more editorial feel.
The Irvine Spectrum and surrounding areas can work for graduates who want an urban or lifestyle feel to complement their campus portraits.
When to Book Your Orange County Graduation Session
UCI graduation sessions are available fall and spring. Spring season fills up fast — reach out at least 4 to 6 weeks before your graduation date. Beach add-ons are available year round and the Southern California light is excellent in both late afternoon and morning.
What to Expect
Sessions are relaxed, fun, and fully guided from start to finish. We move through 2 to 4 locations — a mix of campus and beach depending on your package — and I handle all posing direction so you never have to guess what to do. You will feel comfortable by the third frame.
A sneak peek lands in your inbox the same evening. Galleries are delivered within one week through a private online gallery for downloading, sharing, and ordering prints.
What to Wear for Orange County Graduation Photos
For campus portraits, earth tones, soft whites, and deep blues photograph beautifully against UCI’s greenery and modern architecture. For beach portraits, flowy dresses, linen outfits, and lighter fabrics move well in the coastal breeze and look effortless in photos. Can I do UCI campus AND a beach location in the same session?
Yes, and this is actually one of my most popular Orange County session formats. We start on campus at UCI for the university portraits, then head to Newport Beach or Laguna Beach for the coastal portion. The two locations together give your gallery a range that neither location alone can match.
How long is an Orange County graduation session?
Campus-only sessions typically run 1 to 1.5 hours. Beach add-on sessions run 2 to 3 hours total depending on travel time between locations. Everything is included in the session plan I send before your shoot date.
What is the best beach near UC Irvine for graduation photos?
Newport Beach and Laguna Beach are both excellent and both are within 25 minutes of UCI. Newport is more open and accessible; Laguna has more dramatic cove scenery. I shoot both regularly and can help you decide which fits your vision better.

When is the best time of year for graduation photos in Orange County?
Orange County has excellent light year round. Spring (March through May) and fall (September through November) are peak booking seasons. Summer beach sessions are stunning but book early — June through August fills fast for coastal sessions.
