ASU’s Tempe campus is one of the most photogenic university campuses in the country and I love shooting here. The mix of modern architecture, desert landscaping, and wide open plazas gives us a huge variety of looks within a single session.
I have been photographing graduation sessions at Arizona State University since 2013 and know exactly which spots produce the best portraits at different times of day — including the best early morning windows when Palm Walk has soft light and no crowds.
Where We Shoot at ASU
Palm Walk is the signature ASU location. The towering palms lining the walkway create a dramatic, unmistakably ASU backdrop that every graduate should have in their gallery. Early morning light here is spectacular.
Old Main is ASU’s oldest building and gives sessions a classic, timeless feel with its historic red brick architecture.
Gammage Auditorium designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the most architecturally striking buildings on any university campus. The curved lines and columns make for incredibly unique portraits that stand apart from every other campus in Arizona.
Sun Devil Stadium area is a great option for athletes or graduates who want that ASU Sun Devil pride front and center.
Coor Hall and the design buildings offer a more modern, clean aesthetic for graduates who want something contemporary.
When to Book Your ASU Graduation Session
I shoot Arizona State University graduation sessions during both fall and spring semesters. Spring season in Tempe books up fast — reach out at least 4 to 6 weeks before your graduation date. ASU’s December graduation is also popular, and fall sessions tend to fill within a few weeks of the ceremony date being announced.
One practical note for Tempe: summer heat is real. For spring graduates shooting in April or May, I recommend morning sessions before 10am for the best light and the most comfortable conditions. I’ll work with you on the timing.
What to Expect
Sessions are relaxed, fun, and fully guided. We typically move through 2 to 4 locations and I handle all posing direction so you always feel comfortable. Galleries are delivered within one week through a private online gallery.

What to Wear for ASU Graduation Photos
Most ASU graduates do 1 to 3 outfits plus cap and gown. Maroon and gold naturally photograph beautifully on campus. For personal outfits, earth tones, warm neutrals, and deep blues contrast well against ASU’s desert landscaping and brick architecture. I send a full prep guide with every booking.

For spring and summer sessions, early morning (7 to 9am) is ideal — the light on Palm Walk is stunning, the campus is quiet, and it’s cool enough to be comfortable in a full gown. For fall sessions, late afternoon and golden hour are also excellent.
Do you shoot at ASU’s other campuses (Downtown Phoenix, Polytechnic, West)?

How soon will I get my photos?
